(Passed Out) "Ramu, I--" Shroud stopped, looked around, then spotted her friend on the floor. "Ramu!!" She dropped to her knees and shook the alchemist. "Ramu! Wake up!"

It took a couple of shakes before Ramu blearily opened her eyes. “Huh? Shroud? When did you get here? I was…” She yawned. “Just closing my eyes for a moment.” Slowly coming a little more into consciousness, she looked around. “Where that book go? It’s so inter-” She yawned again. “Interesting…”

"You did pass out.” Shroud sighed and pulled a hand through her hair. “Sit down. I’ll get you something to eat.” She looked at the book curiously a moment, “You could have just called me if you wanted to know about any of this…”

image

She laughed a little sheepishly. “Oops. I guess so.” She managed to get herself to a chair. “Thank you, Shroud. Sorry if I worried you.” She looked over at the book. “I mean, I am, I just didn’t want to bother you with silly questions, so I got a few high school textbooks.”

image

Shroud sighed, and began rummaging for bread and peanut butter and fruit. That would bring Ramu’s blood sugar back up. “Text books?” Shroud sighed and shook her head, “those are going to be very out-dated. You’re just going to teach yourself wrong information. I’d much rather you come to me about it.”

image

Ramu blinked. “Oh, really? I tried to get some more recently published textbooks, and everything in them is still pretty new to me, even if occasionally there does seem to be some inconsistencies between books.”  She ran her fingers lightly over the cover of the book. “And you all have discovered so much about everything, I feel like I’ll never catch up.”

"Ramu… Why are you on the floor?" Shroud looked around, finding the book that had clearly fallen when Ramu had decided to ‘close her eyes for a moment’. She picked it up and stood, placing it firmly on the counter. "When was the last time you ate anything!?"

image

"I’m not sure. Maybe I passed out?" She smiled when Shroud found the book, trying to get up. "I was just coming up here to grab something because my stomach was growling. I just got sort of wrapped up in the book. Modern science is so interesting!"

"Well, it’s mostly that you’ve got all of these really new colors, and they’re sort of arranged very haphazardly… But then under them is a lot of really old color that I haven’t seen on any people I’ve met since I woke up. A human shouldn’t have colors that old and worn. They don’t really live long enough Colors like that are on trees or stone or lobsters. Stuff that exists for hundreds and hundreds of years…"

"Oh, right, that. I suppose I should explain myself, or at the very least, introduce myself. I’m Rieke of Ivansguard. I was born a little over 800 years ago in a country that would become part of modern Germany."

image

She tried to remember where Germany was. She’d begun looking at maps lately trying to figure out what places she’d like to see, how long it would take to get to them. she had a vague idea, but the exact location seemed unimportant, given what preceded it.

"I am positive that humans aren’t supposed to live that long."

image

Ramu watches her working through it, and then nods. “You’re right, of course, and I did die slightly less than 800 years ago. I was revived recently as part of a plot to either take over or destroy the world. I get a little confused sometimes as the two parties responsible didn’t actually have the same goal. I declined to go along with them, and they were defeated, and now I run a bakery and cafe.”

"Well, you’re smart for a human. I’ll give you that much. It usually takes them much longer to figure out the colors are part of them and not just on top. Though yours are strange enough that I’m not that surprised you think a little differently."

image

"That’s very nice of you to say, but then again, I’ve had more experience with life than most." She smiled at the other woman. "So, what exactly do you mean about my colors being so strange?"
